Miami River Streamkeepers - To restore the Miami River through an ongoing revitalization program
Miami River Streamkeepers Society members purchased water testing equipment in 2010 courtesy of the an Environment Canada grant to the Village of Harrison Hot Springs. Equipment included were pH metre, Oxygen metre and GPS unit.
Members test the water quarterly and publish the results to our website. Generally speaking water quality is acceptable to good except at the end of summer when it diminishes to marginal. At that time salmonids move into the upper reaches of the river where water quality is better.
Water quality is affected by temperature, volume , pollutants and other factors. By an ongoing planting program MRSS are providing a riparian habitat that protects the river. Homeowner encroachment, garbage, stormdrain runoff and habitat loss all affect the river.
